Million dollar theatre in Vic Falls

THEATRE’s fundamental goal is to create an extraordinary event from ordinary content in front of an audience. It does matter where the initial inspiration is from, as long as it speaks directly to the audience.

Following these very ideals, a new theatre is set to be constructed in Victoria Falls, a city well known for its tourism and culture. And with it, an exciting, entertaining production of a new original script and music score will be launched.

Geared to entertain visitors who swarm the city all-round the year, this production will be a showcase of the talent from Victoria Falls and from around the country at large. There will be scenes of comedy, adventure, physical theatre, storytelling, song, dance, and romance, with the show running daily throughout the year.

This outdoor theatre, which will be constructed by the Victoria Falls Theatre Company in a location that is yet to be revealed, will showcase the story of Bomani and his transformation from outcast to hero.

After being abandoned by his father and his community, he makes an odd friendship with an elephant cub that will last him his entire life.
He is adopted by a different tribe and he falls in love with the Princess Ajani, but they are separated by the cruelty of his father who enslaves her.

Bomani and Ndlovu search the African hinterland looking for Ajani and upon finding her, Bomani finally completes his journey. Bomani and Ajani finally reconcile their tribes, restoring harmony and optimism.

In an interview with Sunday Life, Allen Roberts who is the director of the project, said there will be an over US$1m investment towards the theatre, also creating 40 jobs for the people.

Auditions for Bomani, which were held at Victoria Falls Primary School from 24 to 26 April, gave permanent positions to the successful candidates as they worked on appreciating that in theatre, talent is not as important as commitment and the rightful attitude.
“The name will not be Bomani. We are going to change the name as the final name is still to be agreed on”, added Roberts.
