Milton… (2) 4
Mtshabezi… (0) 1
MILTON started off their participation in the four-team Dumisani Ndlovu Foundation Football League with a resounding victory over Mtshabezi in a match played at Milton High School yesterday.
A brace from Tatenda Matematombo, a goal each by Fortune Ndlovu and Terrence Mapfumo inspired Milton, the worst team in the same competition last year, to overpower the second best side in the tournament in 2015. Mtshabezi scored their solitary goal through Tanaka Charuka.
Defending champions Gifford were held to a 1-1 draw by Entumbane at Entumbane High School.
Gifford led for most parts of the match through a goal scored by Promise Mlotshwa until Entumbane equalised a few minutes before the end of the encounter with Desire Muchengwa finding the target.
All the four teams were presented with their playing uniforms by Dumisani Ndlovu Foundation volunteers in the country Arthur Mpuli and Gibson Mpala.
The kits were sourced by Ndlovu, a United Kingdom-based teacher who learnt at Mtshabezi, Gifford and then taught at Entumbane.
Mpuli expressed satisfaction with the way things went except for challenges with the playing fields.
The Milton pitch was left in a bad state by the rains which fell during the week while at Entumbane, the venue of the finals of the competition in August, some work needs to be done on the field which needs levelling.
According to Mpuli, the matches will be played until the end of the first term and then resume during the opening three weeks of the second.
Gifford clash with Milton while Mtshabezi welcome Entumbane on Saturday.
