adminDorowa Mine owes Buhera Rural District Council over $500 000 in outstanding rates. Buhera Rural District Council chief executive officer Ms Emily Chibvongodze said Dorowa Mine had not paid for services rendered to it since 2015.
“Dorowa is supposed to pay an annual amount of $138 000 to Buhera Rural District Council. What is troubling us is that the mine has not paid any money since its recapitalisation in 2015,” she said.The Buhera RDC CEO said they were struggling as a local authority to force Dorowa Mine pay its dues.
“We were left with no option, but to take the mining company to court for the council to recover its money. As we speak, nothing has been paid and the debt has ballooned to more than $500 000. What also concerns us is that the company is employing more than 200 people and there is production going on at there at the moment,” she said. — Manicaland Bureau.
