MINES and Mining Development Minister Dr Polite Kambamura is expected to deliver the keynote address at the Beneficiation and Value Addition Symposium at Mine Entra 2026, where industry stakeholders will explore strategies to maximise value from Zimbabwe’s vast mineral resources.
Held under the theme, “Maximising the Contribution of the Mining Sector through Full Beneficiation of Mineral Resources,” the symposium will examine opportunities, challenges and policy interventions aimed at accelerating mineral beneficiation and value addition to increase the sector’s contribution to economic growth.
The symposium is expected to bring together Government officials, mining companies, investors, manufacturers and other industry players to deliberate on ways of strengthening downstream industries and ensuring Zimbabwe derives greater value from its mineral wealth.
Organisers said the event will highlight the mining industry’s role as a key driver of industrialisation, employment creation and sustainable economic development.
Beneficiation remains a central pillar of Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which identifies value addition as critical to transforming the country into an upper-middle-income economy.
The agenda also aligns with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (2020–2030), the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, reinforcing beneficiation as a national, regional and continental development priority.
According to NDS2, Zimbabwe has made significant progress in mineral beneficiation and value addition, particularly in the platinum, lithium, iron and steel, chrome and coal value chains.
The strategy, however, calls for increased domestic value addition through stronger linkages between mining, manufacturing and services, enhanced technology transfer and greater investment in local processing to curb the export of raw minerals and create jobs within the country.
The symposium forms part of the 29th edition of Mine Entra, Zimbabwe’s flagship mining, engineering and transport exhibition, which has placed beneficiation and exploration at the centre of efforts to unlock greater value from the country’s mineral resources.
