A 46-YEAR-OLD man from Mutanda Village, under Chief Marange, was found dead in a cyanide tank at Nechido Mine in Odzi.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident.
He said the tragedy happened on Friday and he identified the deceased as Rueben Mahwetese.
Asst-Insp Chinyoka said Mahwetese was employed as a carbon room attendant at the mine.
The informant, Farai Ginya, was employed as a general hand at the same workplace.
According to police, Mahwetese entered the carbon room and resumed his duties as usual.
After a few minutes, he is said to have complained of being choked by gases and asked Ginya to assist him with a cloth to cover his nose.
Ginya went to look for the cloth.
Upon his return, he found out that Mahwetese had fallen into a cyanide tank, with his head submerged in the cyanide solution.
The matter was immediately reported to other workmates, who rushed to the scene and managed to retrieve the body from the tank.
A report was then made to ZRP Odzi, and police officers attended the scene.
Asst-Insp Chinyoka said no visible injuries were observed on the body.
The body was taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
