A MINE worker has been jailed for raping an 85-year-old woman.
Mike Malunga,31, of Mukuvi Farm, Banket, who was employed as a general worker at Kanyama Mine, was jailed for 15 years by Chinhoyi magistrate Amos Mbobo.
Malunga was found guilty after a full trial.
Prosecutor Jeff Makoni, told the court that Malunga forced his way into the elderly woman’s room.
He carried her to a nearby bush where he raped her without protection.
Villagers, who were looking for her after a relative raised the alarm, found her lying helplessly in the bush.
She narrated her horror tale and the case was reported to the police.
