A small-scale miner from Plumtree escaped death by a whisker when a colleague stabbed him on the head several times with a knife because he had discovered an area with a lot of gold.
Generally it is believed that many small-scale miners in Makorokoro village are envious of Khangela Ncube because he has luck of finding rich gold deposits which give him plenty of money.
This time when they discovered that Ncube had found a fortune they plotted to kill him.
“A gang of small-scale miners raided his house in the evening and demanded that he comes out. When he refused they forced themselves into the house and hauled him outside,” said a relative who refused to be named.
She said the group of men proceeded to tie Ncube to a tree and tortured him.
“They stripped him naked and beat him all over his body with fists. One man stabbed him on the head. When it seemed as if Ncube had fainted, the gang thought he had died so they untied him and carried him to a nearby bush where they later dumped him,” said the source.
Ncube was saved by a passerby who discovered his body and alerted other villagers who took him to Brunapeg hospital. He was later transferred to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH).
When B-Metro visited him at UBH he seemed in pain.
“I am a small-scale miner and I was attacked by other miners because of the gold I had found. At the moment my head is sore and I pray God heals me fast,” said Ncube pointing at his stitched head.
