The call to reverse the declining quality of service delivery in towns and cities and support sound local governance must be implemented to improve socio-economic development by 2030.
This was said by Local Government and Public Works Minister Winston Chitando at the official handover of vehicles and equipment under the ‘Call to Action’ programme meant to jolt authorities to work on service delivery.
Minister Chitando said to support the nation’s goal of having an upper middle-income economy by 2030, the ministry should make sure that it provided effective services.
“It is important that the ministry must provide effective services that will lead to the realisation of an upper middle income by 2030,” he said.
Minister Chitando handed over equipment that will be used in districts to issue proper service delivery and 30 vehicles which will be distributed among provinces and districts.
He emphasised on the need for proper education on what call to action implied.
Minister Chitando said everyone needed to take up the mantle of the call to action for the country to achieve its quest of achieving an upper middle-income economy by 2030.
“It is important that people are educated on what the call to action is really about and the call to action is the first set of interventions for us to move towards Vision 2030,” he said.
“So, it is important that everyone here becomes an ambassador of the ministry in the call to action mantra.”
Minister Chitando expressed gratitude to local government employees for their increased diligence and focus, and urged them to pursue capacity building.
“I want to thank you all for doing such wonderful work, this has made my job as your minister very simple as you are very focused and hard working,” he said.
“Everyone can improve their capacity building, so we should endeavour to do so. If you are skilled at something, you should also have your capacity increased through exposure or training.”
