The Minister of State for Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs David Musabayana has commended Government’s Command Agriculture Programme, saying the initiative is likely to eradicate poverty and empower the nation.

Minister Musabayana made the remarks last Friday while addressing farmers during a field day in Ward 8, Marondera.

“Let me commend the Head of State, our President Emmerson Mnangagwa, for initiating Command programmes, which include Command Agriculture and Command Livestock,” he said.

“These programmes are meant to empower you farmers and the nation at large. The Government has started Command Livestock and let me urge all of you here to make suitable preparations for this programme because as the minister responsible for the province, I will make sure those who are eligible will surely benefit.

“Potential beneficiaries from Ward 5 and Ward 8 will be the first to be considered.”

Those who want to be part of the programme, he said, should set up suitable infrastructure for the envisaged projects.

Minister Musabayana toured a field belonging to Mr Kelvin Shekede, who is considered to be one of the best farmers in the province. He said President Mnangagwa’s leadership would improve the fortunes of the agricultural sector.

“Let us take into consideration that our President is working tirelessly to make Zimbabwe a better nation for us and from the day he came into power as our President, the agriculture sector has improved; so let us take these initiatives seriously and help in building our nation,” he said.

Minister Musabayana said Government was actively pursuing water harvesting initiatives as well.

He donated one tonne of urea fertiliser to farmers from Ward 8 and encouraged them to work harder and increase production.
