Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe recently commissioned several vehicles and equipment bought by the City of Mutare to boost its operations and improve service delivery.
The minister commissioned three tipper trucks, a multi-purpose motorised fire ladder, a water bowser, a refuse compactor, academy buses, a 26-seater bus, a 56-seater bus, a Toyota Landcruiser and a skip truck.
Min Garwe who was represented by his deputy, Engineer Benjamin Kabikira thanked City of Mutare councilors, management, stakeholders and residents for working together to ensure resources are channeled towards development.
He also commended the City of Mutare for leveraging central Government’s partnerships to acquire state-of-the-art equipment.
Min Garwe encouraged other local authorities to emulate Mutare by being transparent in the use of resources for development.
Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Advocate Misheck Mugadza applauded the City of Mutare for prioritising service delivery in its acquisitions.
“From the City of Mutare, we are witnessing a transformation in the way public service delivery is approached,” he said.
“The acquisition of this plant and equipment will greatly enhance the city’s operational capacity in terms of service delivery.
“I am sure these essential service delivery tools will touch the daily lives of every resident and lay a foundation for a clean, safe and sustainable urban environment.”
Mutare mayor Councillor Simon Chabuka thanked various stakeholders for the remarkable achievements.
He said the procurement of such equipment showed council’s commitment towards maintaining efficient and effective service delivery.
Town clerk, Mr Blessing Chafesuka thanked the Local Government Ministry and Central Government for their support in ensuring that the City of Mutare continues to succeed in its various service delivery initiatives.
He also thanked stakeholders, partners and contractors for playing a vital role in ensuring that the local authority meets its service delivery obligations.
Mr Chafesuka said he was happy to be part of a team that was delivering a school every two years and Chikanga Phase 2 Primary School will go a long way in alleviating the city’s educational needs.
Chikanga Phase 2 Primary School is City of Mutare’s seventh school and will begin to operate as a satellite school under Chikanga Primary School.
