THE Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Daniel Garwe has arrived at Maphisa Stadium in Matobo District for a final inspection of various facilities ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on Saturday.
Maphisa Stadium is the main venue for this year’s Independence Day celebrations in Matabeleland South Province.
Mahetshe Primary will be the venue of the Children’s Party on Friday.
The final inspection by Minister Garwe focused on key areas including the main arena, VIP and public seating arrangements, ablution facilities, access roads, parking zones, as well as water and electricity supply systems.
This year’s celebrations, to be held under the theme “Zim@46 – Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030,” are expected to draw thousands of people, with organisers racing against time to ensure a flawless national event.
The final inspection marks a critical step in confirming the country’s readiness to host one of its most significant national commemorations.
“All the facilities are 99 percent complete and what is outstanding is just cleaning up the debris, for example, in and around Maphisa Stadium. The stadium itself is a state of the art facility that is equipped with a modern drainage system so even in the event that it rains heavily, we will not have issues of a water logged pitch like what happened last year in Nembudziya, Gokwe,” said Minister.
“Mahetshe Primary School is ready to host the First Family for the Children’s Party while all the other facilities have been completed,” he said.
