MIDLANDS Provincial Affairs Minister Owen Ncube has commended Gweru City Council for successfully overseeing the rehabilitation of 27 kilometres of road using the $2,6 million road funds from the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (zinara).
Speaking during a tour of the roads in the Central Business District (CBD), Mkoba and Senga suburbs, which were recently rehabilitated by council using funds received under the zinara funded Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme last week, Minister Ncube commended the local authority for a job well done.
“It is pleasing to note that eight projects have been completed covering a total distance of 27km in Gweru,” he said. “I would like to thank zinara for availing funds for the rehabilitation of national roads, including those in urban councils like what has happened in Gweru.” Minister Ncube said the rehabilitation of roads was critical in attracting investors.
“Therefore, if the road network is trafficable this can be one of the aspects than can persuade potential investors to come to our great nation as this is a source of confidence for them,” he said. Minister Ncube urged people to unite and embrace the projects for the betterment of the country.
“So, let us mark this day with remembrance of who we are and how far we have travelled in terms of 100-day programme as directed by His Excellency the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa,” he said.
“Let’s us move the City of Gweru and the Midlands Province forward.” Stretches of roads that were refurbished are Mkoba North to CBD Road and Senga Roundabout to Midlands State University (MSU) gate road, which had become a nightmare for motorists.
