THE Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Cde Nomthandazo Moyo has said the just ended Zim-Asset conference was a huge success.

The two-day event was held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo last Friday and Saturday with more than 1,300 delegates attending.

Cde Moyo commended Cabinet Ministers who dedicated their time to interact with the people of Bulawayo to discuss crucial issues.

“I’m overwhelmed by the outcome of the Zim-Asset conference. The people of Bulawayo came in their numbers and I feel encouraged by the response. On the first day we had 739 people attending and on the second day we had 650 delegates.

“I want to thank the ministers for accepting our invitations and helping us make the event a success,” said Cde Moyo.

She, however, said people were disappointed by the absence of officials from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.

“All the ministries that were invited were represented except for the finance ministry. The people of Bulawayo were really looking forward to discuss issues that have to do with the economy.

“However, the Ministers that were there exhibited their commitment to Zim-Asset and answered the difficult questions that were asked by the people of Bulawayo. At the end of the conference, everyone confessed that they were enlightened by it,” said Cde Moyo.

She said the province was compiling resolutions that were brought up at the conference.

“We’re in the process of compiling a report with resolutions. This shows that people are willing to work together towards the upliftment of the country and the transformation of the economy.

“A lot of issues, which include sanctions, small and medium enterprises, the economy and others were discussed during the conference. We have discovered that this is an easy way to let people know what is happening,” said Cde Moyo.

The conference, she added, managed to demystify Zim-Asset.

Cde Moyo also thanked the First Lady Grace Mugabe for the support she gave her and the province before and after the conference.

The conference, which ran under the theme “Consolidating Bulawayo’s growth through Zim-Asset”, was organised by the provincial leadership to create a platform for dialogue between ministers and the people of Bulawayo.

Cde Moyo said the meeting was organised after it was realised that Bulawayo residents rarely get a platform to engage government officials.

She said this had deprived residents’ first-hand information on the government’s programmes and policies.
