Minister Mhona visits horror crash site

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona has this morning visited the site of the horror crash that killed 21 people along the Masvingo-Zvishavane highway on Monday.

Minister Mhona, who was accompanied by senior police officers led by national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe, and Vehicle Inspectorate Department, also heard testimonies from some of the witnesses who were first to arrive at the crash scene.

He met traditional leaders in Gondo village under Chief Madamombe where the Toyota Granvia and Toyota Wish collided head-on after the Granvia burst a tyre and encroached into the opposite lane.

Minister Mhona also met relatives of one of the people who died in the crash, Samuel Dube (56) of Mberengwa, who he gave US$50 on top of $10 000 cash that will come from the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe and other assistance such as food and a coffin from Government.

The Minister later on visited Zvishavane District Hospital where three people who were rescued alive from the crash wreckage were admitted.

Government yesterday provided foodstuffs to assist all the bereaved families and Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Ezra Chadzamira received the assistance which he handed over to some of the victims’ families in Gutu.
