DEFENCE Minister, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri is today expected to hand over the first phase of the upgraded Mashonaland West Provincial Heroes Acre, which was done by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF).

The first phase was completed within the 21-day time frame. The phase is part of the current major facelift of the Provincial Heroes Acre by Hunyani Farm, the ZDF’s farming company.

ZDF is working in partnership with various private players, including local farmers. Some of the works completed during the first phase include the construction of state-of-the-art ablution facilities, a guard room, the installation of a security fence and the sprucing of the entire shrine.

The historic place now has state-of-the-art ablution facilities, including those for VIPs. The works were completed on Tuesday last week.

Lieutenant Colonel Tichaona Masanganise, who was overseeing the construction works, said the facelift of the shrine, which is being conducted in three phases, was aimed at honouring the freedom fighters and safeguarding the legacy of the liberation struggle.

Dendera musician, Sulumani Chimbetu, will entertain the crowd gathering at the shrine.
