Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Albert Nguluvhe, has praised the Beitbridge business community for their collaboration in developing a showground in line with the border town’s transformation.
The Minister was speaking at the “Dinner Under the Stars” event, where he commended the community for taking the initiative to develop the showground without donor funding.
The event was organised by the Beitbridge Business Expo, which is at the forefront of promoting investment in the town in partnership with the Beitbridge Municipality.
It is envisaged that the showground, which will serve as a central community hub, will host various events, including business expos, music festivals, weddings, and sports functions.
Minister Nguluvhe highlighted the importance of the showground in marketing Beitbridge town and supporting the local economy.
“It is humbling to learn that the Beitbridge business community, in collaboration with Beitbridge Municipality, is developing a showground using their own resources without donor funding,” said Minister Nguluvhe.
“This selfless effort is the right thing to do. No one will do it for you except yourselves. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who came up with the idea to help provide a stage to market our businesses and also showcase the town as a place of choice.
“The showground that you are working on will go a long way towards marketing businesses in the town and elsewhere outside the town.
“Our town is strategically located, and a trade fair is likely to attract big businesses from across Zimbabwe. Establishing a showground in Beitbridge town is very important in that it will serve as a central community hub that will host a variety of events.”
The Minister also commended the organising committee, led by businesswoman Dr Annah Muleya, for their tireless efforts in bringing the project to life.
He encouraged individuals and businesses to contribute to the development of the showground, citing the importance of partnerships in driving growth and development.
Minister Nguluvhe also urged the Beitbridge Business Expo and the Municipality to explore possibilities of partnering with the private sector through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).
He cited the modernisation of the Beitbridge Border Post as an example of what partnerships can achieve.
The Minister also took the opportunity to recognise individuals and companies that have contributed to the development of Beitbridge town, highlighting their contributions to the town’s growth and identity.
