The insurance, risk management and financial services sector have a crucial role to play in the realisation of Vision 2030 and should take into account the changing environment brought about by technological advancements, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere has said.

Dr Muswere said this in a speech read on his behalf by the Director of Media Services in the Ministry, Mr George Chisoko, at the inaugural Zimbabwe Insurance and Risk Management Forum in Harare.

“The insurance, risk management and financial services sector industries and other related industries play a crucial role towards the growth and sustainability of our economy.

“The value that these industries bring to our economy is fundamental to the realisation of Vision 2030 and transformation of our societies.

“In an ever changing world where modernisation and digitalisation have taken centre stage, it is imperative to step up insurance and risk management, rethink our methods, tools, techniques and frameworks, re-examine the skills and role of risk management and insurance practitioners,” he said.

Dr Muswere said research and evidence-based approaches were needed to grow and bring changes in the industries and sectors.

“Research is the cornerstone for all innovations, interventions and modern business models that align with our humanity,” he said.

“As practitioners working in different industries, your mandate is to create cutting edge solutions to economic challenges. To address such mindsets that are solution driven should be nurtured in workplaces and turn these challenges into catalysts for profound change and incredible opportunities.”

Dr Muswere said forums like the one launched yesterday should shift focus towards strategically positioning the transformative value of insurance.

“Already, here in Zimbabwe, the majority of people have a twisted perception towards insurance and pension funds, but it is upon you the practitioners, industry role models and professionals to showcase the essence of insurance and the role that insurance and other related industries play towards the growth and building an upper middle class economy,” Dr Muswere said.

The Minister said most learning institutions were adapting to the urgent call by Government to embrace Education 5.0 which is foundational on innovation, creativity and developing 21st industry expertise.

“This gesture ensures that the growth that the youths are harnessed to be key players in economic growth and stability and play a pivotal role in the attainment of NDS1 targets, through creation of an enabling environment for sustainable socio-economic growth and development,” he said.
