National Housing and Social Amenities Minister Zhemu Soda has assured beneficiaries of the Crownlands Housing Project in Chinhoyi of the Government’s support to ensure its completion.
The project started in 2016, targeting mostly civil servants.

However, the project could not go ahead as planned due to delays in the release of funds for servicing the stands. An individual also occupied part of the land.

Speaking during a tour of the project, Minister Soda said the Government will work round the clock to ensure that beneficiaries get roofs over their heads.

He revealed that the Government has released funds for onsite and offsite infrastructure in line with its policy that stipulates that construction of houses can only start upon the completion of requisite infrastructure such as sewer, water and roads.

“What we have discovered at Crownlands is that of the 100 hectares set aside for the project, about 43ha has been taken by a neighbouring farmer. The land is also swampy so we have to find alternative land for beneficiaries.”
