George Maponga at NUANETSI RANCH
INFORMATION, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Zhemu Soda today toured Nuanetsi Ranch in Mwenezi District where a group of investors is developing a 30 000-hectare greenbelt.
The green corridor is being developed by eight private investors in a partnership with the Development Trust of Zimbabwe(DTZ), which owns Nuanetsi Ranch.
The area developed so far is under sugar cane, and plans are at an advanced stage to add citrus and lucerne under the greenbelt that will reach a crest of 30 000 hectares.
Dr Soda toured DTZ as part of his ongoing visit to high-impact projects being developed under the Second Republic to add impetus to Vision 2030.
DTZ general manager Mr Emmanuel Jaricha told Dr Soda and his team that development of the greenbelt at Nuanetsi was transforming the socio-economic face of Mwenezi and Chiredzi district.
He said the private investors at DTZ were drilling boreholes to supply clean water to families being reorganised by the greenbelt project.
Mr Jaricha said hundreds of jobs had also been created under the greenbelt project that will culminate in the building of an ethanol plant at Nuanetsi.
Dr Soda is being accompanied by his Permanent Secretary Mr Nick Mangwana and the Permanent Secretary for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Dr Addmore Pazvakavambwa and other officials.
