Giving youth capacity to fend for themselves will go a long way in curbing vices such as drug abuse and is essential in achieving Vision 2030, Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Deputy Minister Tinoda Machakaire has said.
Addressing hundreds of Zanu-PF supporters during a sports tournament in Zvimba North over the weekend, Cde Machakaire said it was important to capacitate the youths in every discipline so that they contribute towards the development of the country.
“We were tired of being told that we are the leaders of tomorrow but now we want to thank the President for giving us representation in Government. It is time we give the youths opportunities in Government departments so that they shape the future,” he said.
He said his ministry was working to capacitate youths in sports, mining and farming so that they did not get involved in social ills.
“As a ministry, we are sourcing equipment for the youths in mining and we will be launching that project soon. Politicians must desist from using the youth for their personal gain but should support them,” he said.
The Wedza South MP hailed President Mnangagwa for giving youths a role in Cabinet and at party level.
“I think everyone should appreciate the vision of President Mnangagwa.
“He knows what the future of the country needs, therefore, he is taking youths on board,” he said.
Speaking at the same function, Zanu-PF deputy youth secretary Cde Lewis Matutu thanked the President for appointing youthful ministers in his Government.
“Cde Machakaire has done well in making sure the youths are capacitated.
“He has already started sourcing funds for the youths in mining, sourcing funds to pay fees for the youths in universities. That is all we want as a nation. If we have people like him, then what can stop us from achieving Vision 2030? We have to thank President for such appointments,” he said.
Cde Machakaire is fundraising for fees for 1 000 tertiary students.
