MATABELELAND South Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Abednico Ncube has implored civil servants to rally behind President Mnangagwa’s vision of transforming the country into an upper middle-income economy by 2030 through effective service delivery.

Speaking during a provincial development committee meeting in Gwanda recently, Minister Ncube said Government under Second Republic has rolled out a number of projects, which require the commitment of different stakeholders such as Government departments for them to be successfully implemented.

He said Government has availed resources for development and civil servants have an obligation to ensure development projects are implemented.

Minister Ncube said other development partners should complement Government efforts to ensure Vision 2030 is realised.

“Let’s all support our leader, His Excellency President Mnangagwa and his Government. Everyday we are witnessing development projects that are being implemented by Government under the Second Republic,” he said.

Minister Ncube said dams are being constructed, irrigation schemes are being rehabilitated and roads are being constructed and rehabilitated.

“These projects are also going to benefit us as Government workers,” said Minister Ncube.

He said Government has provided resources and engaged partners to expedite the implementation of projects.

“As the implementers let’s ensure that everything is done above board with funds and programmes benefiting the intended people. If we don’t implement these programmes well, we paint bad image of our Government,” he said.

Minister Ncube said Government workers have a duty to inform the masses of the Government interventions. He said in cases where project implementation faces challenges, civil servants should find solutions rather than to bad mouth Government.

Minister Ncube also urged heads of various Government departments to ensure smooth implementation of projects.

He said all funds had to be accounted for to ensure transparency.

“Our Government is development-oriented and so is President Mnangagwa. We expect to have workers that are development-oriented and not those who are there to serve their own interests,” said Minister Ncube.

“President Mnangagwa is committed to serving the people and that’s what we expect from you. We expect people to benefit from Government projects and communities to be uplifted in line with the President’s philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind.”

Minister Ncube said Matabeleland South Province has benefited significantly from Government projects.

Government recently established an e- passport facility in Gwanda District as part of efforts to guarantee efficient service delivery.

Government under Second Republic also resumed the construction of Tuli Manyange Dam in Gwanda which had stalled for decades.

It is envisaged that once Tuli- Manyange Dam is complete, at least 1 600 hectares will be put under irrigation. The dam is expected to service Vela, Guyu Business Centre, Ntalale Business Centre, Chelesa Business Centre, Sizhubane Barracks, Manama Mission and Business Centre, Sebasa and Mankonkoni irrigation schemes.

Government also resumed construction of the Gwanda Court Complex as part of efforts to ensure decent working environment for Government workers.

The Gwanda Court Complex which is at about 50 percent completion is expected to house the country’s sixth High Court.

Government has also released funds for road maintenance works in the province. A number of irrigation schemes that had been lying idle have been rehabilitated under the Second Republic.

Minister Ncube said the province has also been able to fund many development projects using devolution funds.

“As Government workers you should also come up with strategies of exploiting our natural resources so that we can grow our provincial GDP,” he said. — @DubeMatutu.
