YOUTH, Sport, Arts and Recreation Deputy Minister Cde Yeukai Simbanegavi has challenged the youth across the country to participate in on-going economic development and empowerment initiatives in line with Government’s Vision 2030.
Cde Simbanegavi said the youth would benefit from the initiatives which are meant to ensure broad-based participation in the development of the economy.
“There are Government-led economic development initiatives outlined in the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP) aimed at leading an aggressive realignment of the country’s economy through introducing far-reaching reforms and re-engagement with the international community,” she said.
“As a Ministry, we want to ensure youth benefit from each and every economic activity implemented in the country. Right now there is a land audit and we expect that the youth can benefit from that audit so that they can be able to utilise the land for their businesses, agriculture, or whatever projects they want, both in the rural and urban areas.
“Therefore, I am calling on all youths to participate in developmental programmes in line with the President’s Vision 2030 because working hard is the only way that we can solve our economic problems.”
Zimbabwe is going through the primary stages of a radical economic transformation that will witness the country becoming a middle-income economy by 2030.
“Everyone is aware of the current situation in our country but it’s not for the Government only to address, it is our collective responsibility. We must subscribe and affirm to the principle that we are all equal but only differ in our responsibilities and duties as we work towards the transformation of our country into a great economy,” said Cde Simbanegavi.
The Minister urged the youth to take advantage of the opportunities availed by the youth desks in every ministry in the country for maximum participation and empowerment.
“We have youth desks in every ministry which means each one of them is collaborating with us. In every activity they are doing, they incorporate the youth. For instance, when the Ministry of Agriculture is distributing inputs and farming equipment, there is a percentage channelled to youths,” Cde Simbanegavi.
“That way we follow up on youth inclusion and empowerment. The youth desks therefore ensure that we keep our feet in every ministry making sure that every youth is empowered. We therefore encourage the youth to take advantage of such provisions. Government is willing to work with young people across the political divide. This is not the time to be politicking because the future belongs to them. It is up to young people to push for the success of the vision 2030 as they are the beneficiaries of that legacy.”
