adminduring the hand over of the money, Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Ignatius Chombo, said Government was being compelled to channel more money towards emergence responses.
“It is disturbing to note that inspite of concerted efforts to put to an end to carnages, they are actually claiming more lives and leaving hundreds others traumatised and maimed.”
Minister Chombo received the money from co-Minister of Home Affairs Kembo Mohadi, which was raised through the Lotteries and Gaming Board.
“I am humbled by the gesture exhibited by the Lotteries and Gaming Board who have made a collective decision to complement assistance to the said families. I have no doubt that this contribution will afford our dear departed comrades a decent burial. Furthermore I am enthused to note that there is a commitment to meet medical bills in respect of the injured persons who have been admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital,” Minister Chombo said.
Minister Mohadi urged commuter omnibus drivers to be cautious on the roads.
“The extension of money to the bereaved by the Ministry of Home Affairs through the Lotteries and Gaming Fund is necessary relief that such disasters should be accorded.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives on our roads and it is with profound sorrow that I convey heartfelt condolences to all the bereaved families as we mourn with them,” he said.
