Youths have been hailed by the Ministry of Youth, Arts, Sport and Recreation for participating in this year’s Zimbabwe Agricultural Show that started in Harare on Monday.

In an interview, Permanent Secretary for Youth, Arts, Sport and Recreation, Dr  Thokozile Chitepo, said she was pleasantly surprised by the number of youths exhibiting at the show.

“As a Ministry, we are very pleased to exhibit at the Agriculture Show,” she said. “We tried to exhibit a lot of products that are made through the service that we offer throughout the country.

“(It is) products that we train young people to do and what they can do for themselves. Young people here are explaining and showcasing the work that they are doing.” Many youths, she added, were benefiting from the services that the Ministry is offering. They expect more people to visit the stand and familiarise with what the Ministry offers, particularly in the area of sports and arts.“We have been trying to emphasise the economics of sports and arts that you can make a business out of arts and sports, not just from being an athlete or artiste, but also being a sales person or a trader of some of the products that are required, and that is a big business,” she said.

“We want to promote that, and many young people can get involved. We still do not see enough young people making the attire that people need to put on and creating places for exercise.

“We have a small department and we want to grow it and exhibiting here, we want to make an income and business out of sports and arts.”
