INSIZA DISTRICT – The Ministry of Health and Child Care has launched a malnutrition screening initiative in the villages of Mathabisa and Mbabale in Insiza District, Matabeleland North.

The programme, spearheaded by Nutrition Action Zimbabwe, aims to identify children at risk of undernutrition and provide them with timely intervention and support.

Teams of health workers and community volunteers have been deployed to the two villages to conduct the screenings. They are using various assessment tools, including measuring weight, height, and mid-upper arm circumference, to determine the nutritional status of the children.

Malnutrition can have long-lasting effects on a child’s physical and cognitive development.

By identifying those at risk, the Government can provide the necessary nutritional support and education to the families to ensure the healthy growth of their children.

The initiative is part of the Government’s broader efforts to address the challenges of malnutrition in rural communities. It is expected to be expanded to other parts of Insiza District in the coming months.

The malnutrition screening exercise in Mathabisa and Mbabale villages is set to continue over the next few days, with the ministry promising to provide the necessary follow-up care and support to the affected families
