Ministry of Sports in mourning

THE Minister of Sport and Recreation Makhosini Hlongwane has sent his condolences to the families and friends of three officials from the ministry who perished in a bus accident along the Harare-Bulawayo highway on their way to Hwange for the Youth Education through Sport (Yes) games.

Regis Chabata, Innocent Fusire and Lillian Mupandasekwa died on the spot while 10 others were injured when a CMED bus they were travelling in overturned and landed on its roof near Turnpike on Thursday.

“The Ministry of Sport and Recreation is profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of life and injury following the unfortunate bus accident that occurred on Thursday afternoon, December 8, 2016 at Snake Park on the Harare-Norton road whilst en route to Hwange for the Youth Education through Sport (Yes) games scheduled for 9-13 December 2016,” said the minister in a statement.

“We wish to convey our condolences to the families and friends of three colleague who died on the scene – Mr Regis Chabata, Innocent Fusire and Lillian Mupandasekwa.

“In this time of bereft and great ordeal, it is the Ministry of Sport and Recreation’s unflinching responsibility to support the bereaved families and injured colleagues in recognition of their heroic commitment to public duty,” he said.

The ministry also paid tribute to emergency services’ staff who attended the scene for the help they gave to the injured.
