The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development is this week expected to hold its strategic planning workshop, as it forges ahead with an infrastructure blueprint targeting integrated and inclusive systems.

The workshop started this Monday and is expected to end this Friday in Bulawayo.

In her remarks, the ministry’s permanent secretary, Engineer Joy Makumbe, called for a transformative course for the nation’s transport and infrastructure landscape.

She emphasised moving beyond siloed projects to design a system where roads, railways, ports and airports function as a single and efficient network.

The permanent secretary said a plan is useless without the capacity and funding to execute it, reiterating that the ministry is aiming to build on its recent success after receiving accolades as the Best Performing Ministry for the year 2024.

Eng. Makumbe challenged ministry officials not to rest on their laurels, but to work relentlessly to craft a final plan that will guide billions in investment and shape the quality of life for every citizen.

Over the weekend, the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe also held its strategic workshop, aimed at enhancing road safety through innovative strategies and actionable solutions.

The workshop focused on data – driven approaches, community involvement, and best practices to reduce road crashes and promote safer roads.

The workshop was attended by officials from the Ministry of Transport, legislators, transport associations, community representatives, policymakers, and senior Government officials.
