MISS Face of Zimbabwe 2024, Karen Katsande, says local models still have a lot of work to do if they are to break onto the international scene.
Katsande is also the Miss UZ 2023.
She was crowned Miss Face of Zimbabwe 2024 last weekend in Harare.
Katsande garnered the most votes from the public, through an online voting system, which has become the pageant’s key feature.
In an interview with H-Metro, Katsande said:
“Well, this is a new change for me since I am used to an institution-based pageant, which was the University of Zimbabwe.
“But, this has to involve the whole of Zimbabwe.
“So it’s a little bit of weight on my shoulders but it’s something I know I will be able to tackle.
“The modelling industry of Zimbabwe needs a lot of work from the modelling competitions to the sponsorship for it to go to the international levels.”
She added:
“In general, models supporting models is something that I have never seen happen on a 100 percent scale.
“So, it’s more of we have to work on ourselves to uplift each other to be able to support each other.
“The modelling industry is based on who you know since there is a lot of discrimination that needs to be worked out among the models themselves.
“But once that is done, I am pretty sure that Zimbabwe, when it comes to modelling on the international scene, we can take crown after crown.”
