Preparations for Miss Planet Zimbabwe 2023 are underway with the finals slated for next week Saturday at the Bulawayo Theatre.

The pageant’s national director, Jemima Mandemwa who is also the reigning Miss Planet International said the beauty pageant seeks to provide a platform of empowerment, leadership, philanthropy work and participation in the international contest.

“The girls are set to check into a boot camp from August 4 to 7 in preparation for the national contest. During the boot camp, they’ll undergo team building activities that promote friendship, teamwork and confidence building,” said Mandemwa.

The beauty queen said preparations for the finals are going well with a lot of models showing interest in the pageant this year.

“We have girls from all over the country registering to contest in the beauty pageant. It’s a grand event and we’re inviting people to come through and celebrate excellence in the art industry.

“The audience should expect a mind-blowing production from models to performances from artistes and speeches from our guests. Among the guests is an artiste, Varun from India who will be performing at the event,” Mandemwa said.

Also part of the performers will be a local school.

The pageant’s inaugural edition was held in September last year at the same venue. It had participants from Gweru, Harare, and Bulawayo competing in different categories which included Mr Super Globe Zimbabwe, Miss Super Globe Zimbabwe and Junior Model Zimbabwe.

“This year, we have a larger participation as we have finalists from other provinces including Manicaland and Mashonaland West,” said Mandemwa.

Mandemwa said on the same day, Planet Pageants Zimbabwe will host contests for females from the ages of 4 to 30. The models are to contest in the following categories: Miss Teen Intellect Zimbabwe (15–20 years), Miss Pre-Teen Intellect Zimbabwe (8–14 years) and Miss Planet Zimbabwe (18–30 years).

The girl who will be crowned Miss Planet Zimbabwe will go on to represent Zimbabwe at the international contest taking place in Cambodia on November 10. – @TashaMutsiba.
