The second inception of Miss Rural Mashonaland East takes place tomorrow at Goromonzi High School. It is the second event of the pageant after Miss Seke contest that was held recently.

A total of 30 models between the ages of 15 and 22 will battle for the crown. Miss Rural Goromonzi is being organised by Zimbabwe Multi-talented Youth Association (ZIMTAYA) in conjunction with Youth Empowerment Action and Shamwari Yemwanasikana.

The pageant aims to celebrate rural life and uplift the lives of the usually marginalised rural girls.

In an interview, one of the organisers Christine Matizha said all is in place for the event.

“Plans are at an advanced stage and we are looking at girls aged 15 to 22 years and not married. The girls are really excited that they feel recognised as equally important citizens within their communities and most of all we are getting fantastic response,” said Matizha.

She added that as an organisation they are more concerned about empowering the youths especially the marginalised girl child who is barely recognised in the beauty society.

“We at ZIMTAYA are much into youth empowerment and cultural revolution acceleration because our Zimbabwean culture has been diluted by foreign cultures hence the need to revive it. The rural girl child is our anchor for this initiative of cultural identity revival and identifying talents among the rural girl child and also nurturing their talents,” she said.

ZIMTAYA president applauded the district head for Goromonzi for the support he is offering for this event, which he said should be an annual pageant.

The pageant comes barely a month after ZIMTAYA hosted the inaugural Miss Seke rural, which was won a 16-year-old Divine Kureva.

However, it is alleged that there is war between founder of defunct Miss Rural Zimbabwe Sipho Mazibuko and Matizha, with the former claiming that the latter should have consulted her first before she used the term Miss Rural since it is her brain child.

The two women both say they have the licence for the pageant with Matizha claiming their concepts were different hence there is no need to quarrel.

The organisers of this pageant have said they will continue until they have exhausted all the districts in Mashonaland East.
