It’s 11 days before the world has a new queen.
Reigning Miss Universe R’Bonney Gabriel of the United States is set to crown her successor at the 72nd Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador.
Already tensions, panic, joy, fun, fashion, and anxiety among others, have gripped the 85 beauties from around the world who arrived last Saturday in San Salvador.
From the look of things, it seems a tight competition, with reels, pictures and videos being posted on Miss Universe official page as fans have started identifying their winner.
Isn’t too early to judge and with Zimbabwe returning to the pageant after a 22 year hiatus, fingers are crossed on Miss Universe Zimbabwe Brooke Bruk Jackson.
Will she return the lost glory in the Zimbabwean pageant?
Remember the names Angeline Musasiwa, Britha Maselethulini, Malaika Mushandu, Charlotte Muziri and Langa Sibanda among others who raised the country flag high at different levels.
So far the highest and biggest achievement in the history of modelling in Zimbabwe is Angeline Musasiwa.
She came fourth in the Miss World ‘94 held in South Africa.
Back to the Miss Universe, according to the organisers, the finale will be streamed on The Roku Channel while Telemundo will broadcast the show within the United States as well as local channels around the world.
All the girls are now in the city but they will be in camp until November 20 even though the pageant will be over.
November 15 is the National Costume Competition while the preliminaries are on the 16th then the finale on the 18th.
Some of the participants have already shared with the world what they will be wearing, the preparations, and the projects.
Now with Zimbabweans hoping for Brooke to bring the crown home, the 21-year-old model left the country last Friday and was accompanied by her mother Tracey and national director Tendai Hunda, with other family members following later.
Brooke’s mother said she was happy for her daughter and optimistic that she will make it to the finale.
“My daughter Brooke Bruk Jackson was born unique and fearless,” she said.
“She has proven to us now as she embraces this journey of Miss Universe 2023,” she said.
“I believe she will change the face of this pageant by being her true self, natural, authentic, kind, loving and she will represent all women across the world with such ease and grace as it all comes from her heart. Brooke will definitely win Miss Universe 2023.”
However, national director Hunda said they couldn’t display Brooke’s national dress for the locals to see before the pageant due to the fact that it was finished hours before she left for El Salvador.
“Brooke arrived well last Saturday night and registered. It’s confirmed she is taking part. She has already done the dress fittings from El Salvador,” said Hunda.
“Her evening gown was sponsored by prominent local designer Zarguesia, who made two evening gowns one for preliminaries and one for the finale.”
On the national traditional attire, Hunda explained and said it was done by Ivhu Tribe.
“Brooke’s national costume has about (two cowry shells). The Cowry shells are a representation of fertility and womanhood. This is to say, we are all born in the same way, no matter the colour of your skin, we are brought into earth through the same path,” she said.
“On the cowry shells, the colour white, like on the Zimbabwean flag, goes further to embrace the peaceful nature of the Zimbabwean woman. The gold ensemble is a representation of the special mineral wealth beneath our land. The beauty of our land Zimbabwe lies not on its surface alone, it goes way beyond the soil. Right into its heart. Like the riches of our land, it goes on to show the rich heart of the Zimbabwean woman. A woman, with a heart of gold.
“The Great Zimbabwe pattern on the orange fabric, right on the tail of the costume represents the Great Zimbabwe (Madzimbabwe). The pattern showcases the way each rock was laid on top of the other, creating beautiful art on the great enclosure.
“The Great Zimbabwe figure is a representation of our roots, taking pride in our culture and our background.
“The Orange feel of the fabric symbolises the beauty of the setting sun in Zimbabwe.
“That glorious and breathtaking orange-golden sunset, warm and tender like the heart of a Zimbabwean woman and the lion is a representation of strength, power, courage and authority.
“A woman with such attributes is unstoppable and can achieve the greatest of goals,” Hunda explains dress.
With grooming experts from prominent former beauty queens, Brooke oozes confidence and intelligence when it comes to projects she will take to the global stage.
Being one of the youngest in the pageant, she will definitely leave an indelible mark if she breaks the record for Zimbabwe, Africa and the universe.
