Miss Universe Zimbabwe introduces fashion designer challenge

THE Miss Universe Zimbabwe pageant, now in its third edition, has partnered with Fazak Africa shopping centre to launch a fashion designer challenge, providing a platform for emerging designers to showcase their talent on a national stage.

The challenge is open to designers from across Zimbabwe, encouraging them to create original pieces that embody elegance, creativity, and Zimbabwean pride.

Participants are required to incorporate the colours of the Fazak Africa logo into their designs. To enter, designers must follow Fazak Africa on Instagram or Facebook and submit their creations accordingly.

Kylie Manyasha, the challenge co-ordinator, explained the initiative’s purpose:
“We believe there are young people out there who lack the resources to showcase their work. By participating in this challenge, it will not only build their confidence but also provide them with valuable exposure. You never know who might be judging their designs — this could lead to internships or mentorship opportunities.”

Manyasha also emphasised the importance of reaching talent in under-represented areas:
“When we initiated the designers challenge, our aim was to tap into hidden talent, particularly among high school and tertiary students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to have their work recognised. Our partnership with Miss Universe Zimbabwe has spanned over three years, and as a brand, it’s always important for us to engage with the community. Through this challenge, we hope to uncover talent from all walks of life.”

The deadline for entries to the fashion designer challenge is April 28, 2025. The winner will receive a cash prize and have their winning design worn by the Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2025 title holder, a potentially career-defining opportunity.

This initiative is set to make a meaningful impact on the Zimbabwean fashion industry, offering up-and-coming designers the chance to launch their careers.

Auditions for Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2025 are underway. Bulawayo hosted its auditions on April 5, followed by Harare on April 12, with further auditions scheduled in other cities.
