The pageant will be held on October 15 at Ochi City, a joint that has become a favourite of many partygoers.
The pageant, which runs under the theme “Beauty and Brains”, seeks to give platform to academics to show that they can do more than just books. Katherine Sukuta, one of the organisers of the pageant and a former model, said all was in place save for a few models who are yet to confirm their participation.
“We have more than 12 models that have confirmed so far and what is left is for us is to audition would-be contestants in other tertiary institutions so that we can have more models taking part,” she said.
Sukuta also took time to thank the corporate world for supporting the pageant.
“I would like to thank our sponsors especially Commissioner Oliver Chibage who has worked hard to make this project one of the best in the country,” Sukuta said.
She promised revellers a show that they will live to cherish for many days to come.
Outgoing queen Paula Machaya said winning the pageant was an eye-opener for her.
“Being Miss Universities Zimbabwe was the best thing to happen to me as I got exposure and I also managed to donate to orphanages in Zimbabwe,” she said.
The vivacious model also urged this year’s winner to be a role model for future winners.
The winners of the pageant will win various prizes, which include scholarships and a chance to represent Zimbabwe in the Miss Universities Africa.
As a sign of social responsibility, the winners of the pageant will donate money and goodies to various orphanages dotted around Zimbabwe and also market the country in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.
Apart from the modelling extravaganza at the show, superstar Oliver Mtukudzi and rhumba musician Energy Mutodi aka Tatu Muluba among others are billed to perform. Rumbidzai Mudzengerere, the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, and Miss Universe Zimbabwe Lisa Morgan were some of the previous winners of the pageant.
