ORGANISERS of the Miss Zimbabwe pageant have rubbished rumours circulating on social networking sites that they will conduct compulsory HIV/Aids test to all participating models. Miss Zim Trust chairperson, Mary Mubaiwa-Chiwenga said they were shocked to hear that and distanced her organisation from the rumour.
According to word doing rounds, all models would be forced to undergo an HIV/Aids test before they are admitted into boot camp.
“This is shocking and definitely not true, we don’t have such a requirement and models must not be scared away by such statements. I am not on any social sites so I was not aware of such an issue,” said Mubaiwa-Chiwenga.
She added that HIV/Aids tests were voluntary and as such no one should be forced to undergo one.
Said Mubaiwa-Chiwenga: “As the board we have not discussed such an issue and we don’t know where people got that from probably its people who want to scare away the models.”
The rumour went viral on Facebook last week and was received with mixed feelings, with some arguing that it would be a violation of people’s rights and some saying it would be a step in the right direction to promote abstinence and good morals in models.
Mubaiwa-Chiwenga said preparations for the pageant were going on smoothly and the team was working hard to meet its target.
This year’s Miss Zimbabwe pageant is expected to be bigger and better after a year’s absence with a number of sponsors expected to come on board to support it.
Stakes have also been raised and the winner is expected to walk away $50,000 richer.
