A BULAWAYO man who was reported missing was found dead last week with a stab wound and knife still stuck in his stomach in a bushy area at Emakhandeni suburb.
A resident who was searching for firewood stumbled upon the body of Givemore Musaka last week Wednesday at around 1pm and reported the incident to the police.
Musaka, who originally comes from Binga and was a Zesa employee, was reported missing on Monday last week after he did not come back home from his usual drinking sport in the suburb, his uncle, Mr Lee Zulu, said.
“Givemore was a people’s person. His family last saw him on Sunday afternoon when he left to go to a local bar where he was drinking with his friends,” he said in an interview.
“He was a Zesa worker so he had just been paid that weekend. So, I think that is why he decided to join his friends.
“When he did not return home that same day his wife contacted me and I told her to go and open a missing person case with the police,” said Mr Zulu.
He said the family had hoped to find him alive only to be shocked he had been killed.
“On Wednesday around 1pm I was called by police telling me they have found Givemore dead with a stab wound and knife on his body,” said Mr Zulu.
“I could not go and see his body because the police told me his body had already started decomposing and his intestines were protruding from where he was stabbed. “It pains me that my nephew died this way and his body was just dumped like that of a dog. His killer should have dumped him there.”
The deceased’s grandfather, Mr Michael Sialuno, shed tears during an interview saying he was grieved by the loss.
“He loved laughing and playing around with people. If he was here, we would all forget we were at a funeral because he would have cracked a joke just to entertain everyone,” he said.
“If we had known this is how his life would end in Bulawayo, he wouldn’t have come back in January after the holidays.”
Mr Sialuno said the family was hopeful the law would take its course to bring justice over his grandson’s death.
“This is hurting us as a family because Musaka was a breadwinner to more than six people and I don’t know how they are going to survive now. We are only going to leave this matter with the police and hope that they will find his killer,” he said.
“What is more painful is that his killers left him with the knife still on his body. That is dehumanising and very disrespectful because it shows they did not even respect his body after they killed him.”
Musaka is survived by his wife and four children. He was buried on Saturday at his rural home in Binga. Official comment could not be obtained from the police. — @flora_sibanda
