Gratitude becomes a resounding theme as Everton Mlalazi, a gospel legend, reflects on the past year when he stood out as a dominant force in Zimbabwean gospel music.

In 2023, Mlalazi’s accolades included winning the Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA) Outstanding Gospel Act for two consecutive years, securing the Africa Gospel Artiste of The Year at the Christian Legendary And Impact Makers Awards in Africa and receiving a nomination for the Crown Gospel Awards for Gospel Artiste of the Year. His solo events also left an indelible mark on audiences.

As 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of The Vine, Mlalazi’s music outfit, the gospel kingpin has shared his vision for the future.

Mlalazi stressed the importance of valuing the gift of life and acknowledging God’s role in his journey from illness recovery to the provision of shelter, clothing, and food. He sees his music as a testament to his life’s journey, expressing gratitude and faith in the divine.

“We should never take for granted that we have entered the new year. It’s not our doing but God’s doing, and that’s why we must gather, celebrate, and praise the Almighty. I have witnessed the hand of God in my life through recovery from illness and, the provision of shelter, clothing, and food.

“Wait until you lack these necessities; that’s when you realise the need for even more gratitude. Therefore, my music is my journey, as I always say. I believe we are on a journey to meet our Lord in heaven,” expressed Mlalazi.

Recapping the fruitful 2023, Mlalazi highlighted winning regional awards, performing at the Crown Gospel Awards in South Africa, launching his second album, and touring major cities in Zimbabwe. “2023 was amazing. I clinched a regional award, received a nomination for another, graced the stage at the prestigious Crown Gospel Awards in South Africa, and had the honour of performing with Spirit of Praise during their inaugural visit to Zimbabwe.

“Additionally, I successfully launched my second album and embarked on a tour covering Harare, Bulawayo, Masvingo, and Mutare.”

He capped off the year with the celestial chorus hymns night, featuring renowned artistes.

“To cap off the year, we hosted the celestial chorus hymns night, a memorable event featuring acclaimed artistes such as Ayanda Ntanzi, Dumi Mkokstad, Lebo Sekgobela, Canaan Nyathi, Mpumi Mtsweni, Janet Manyowa, and Rudo Madindi among many others,” shared Mlalazi.

For 2024, Mlalazi outlined his plans, including a continued tour to Gweru, Bindura, Chinhoyi, and a significant show in Bulawayo. “Exciting collaborations are also in the works. The Vine, celebrating its 10th anniversary, is set to release a massive recording in May,” he said.
