Mlalazi’s gospel star shines brighter

AWARDS seem to be calling from every corner for Harare-based gospel musician Everton Mlalazi who has been nominated for two awards in the Christian Legendary Impact Makers Awards (CLIMA AFRICA) 2023 edition.

Mlalazi who has been raking in awards since breaking into the musical scene is nominated in two categories of Africa Best Male Artist of the Year and Africa Gospel Artist of the Year.

The Zimbabwean artist, the only one nominated locally will battle it out with big gospel gurus in the continent.

Voting for winners will be done online and runs between August 20-September 20, 2023 and the artists will certainly need not only his compatriots but those outside the country for votes.

The awards will be held October 2 2023 at Lagos Television (LTV), in Nigeria.

In the Africa Best Male Artist of the Year Mlalazi is rubbing shoulders with Nigerians Mercy Chinwo, Mrs and Mrs Revelations, Nathaniel Bassey and Moses Bliss.

Other contestants in the category include Piesie Easter from Ghana, Winnie Mashaba from South Africa and Janet Otieno from Kenya.

On the male category of the awards the Nomakunje hit maker has six artists he is contesting with these being Joe Mettle from Ghana, Dunsin Oyekan, Nathaniel Bassey, Moses Bliss, Testimony Jaga and Peterson Okupi all from Nigeria.

Mlalazi said the nomination was a push for him and his team to keep on working hard.

“This was unexpected but fully appreciated. I am in awe and grateful to God for the recognition. It encourages us to keep working. On the other end I am very much humbled that I can be recognized in Nigeria for African Awards – both Best Gospel and Best Male Gospel Artist,” said the soft-spoken artist.

Last month, Mlalazi was honoured by his church-The Seventh-Day Adventist at regional level for his work in spreading the gospel through music.
