BULAWAYO Chiefs FC have appointed former Mighty Warriors coach Shadreck Mlauzi as assistant coach to head coach Johanisi Nhumwa.
On Sunday, Mlauzi was spotted sharing notes with Nhumwa from the stands at Barbourfields Stadium during the Bulawayo Chiefs and Highlanders FC, Chibuku Super Cup first round tie. Bosso won the tie 6-5 after penalts.
This publication has it on good authority that Mlauzi could not sit with the technical team as his papers were still being worked on at the Premier Soccer League. Mlauzi began his Caf A lessons in Tanzania last month. Asked on Mlauzi’s position at the team, Bulawayo Chiefs’ communications officer Thulani “Javas” Sibanda could neither confirm nor deny the latest development.
“The club will make an official announcement if there are any changes,” said Sibanda. Mlauzi brings in a wealth of experience that could be of good use to Amakhosi Amahle.
Under his guidance, the Mighty Warriors booked a historic ticket to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and secured a fourth Africa Women’s Cup of Nations dance, all in the space of six months.
The coach also boasts of being one of the country’s brilliant minds in sports science. He penned the physical education (PE) book titled in Latin as Anima Sana In Corpore Sano which means a sound mind in a healthy body, when loosely translated into English.
Mlauzi, a physical education teacher submitted his book to the curriculum development unit in the Primary and Secondary Education Ministry for review and adoption into the educational system.
Bulawayo Chiefs last week unveiled Nhumwa as head coach after parting ways with Joseph Sibindi.
Addressing his first club Press conference, Nhumwa said: “I am happy that I have been welcomed well at Bulawayo Chiefs. I would want to comment on the matter of bringing my backroom staff as I’m yet to settle down. But in football you can actually work with anyone.
He added: “This is a big club. There is a very big difference between Division One football and Premier Soccer League football. In Division One you work more on the basics while in the PSL you concentrate more on the tactical aspects.”
Sibindi was thrust into the position of head coach following the departure of Lizwe Sweswe who is now with Gweru-based Sheasham.
He was in charge of five league games at Bulawayo Chiefs that saw him post two wins and three defeats, a development that put him at a 40 percent success rate as he managed to see his charges collect a paltry six points from a possible 15 before he was shown the exit. — @innocentskizoe
