Mlauzi vows to assist Nico Utd survive relegation

ZIMBABWEAN attacker Nigel Mlauzi believes that he has a role to play in order to steer his team away from relegation in the Botswana Premier League.

The man on loan from Highlanders was one of Nico’s best players last season, scoring six goals after arriving from the Bulawayo giants.

His team finished in 10th place in their maiden topflight season last year and they have been struggling for form this season and are rooted at the bottom of the table with just nine points, after the 12 matches that have been played.

He was a late introduction to this season’s campaign due to injury troubles from pre-season, and since his introduction in match six, he has scored three goals.

The 22-year-old admitted to Zimpapers Sports Hub that, if his team is to survive, he will also have to play a big role.

“Of course it is a team sport, but at times as an individual you have to make it a target to yourself that you also help the team. As much as we have not been defending well, I also think that we have not been doing well offensively and for me personally I feel like I have to pull up my socks.

“There is no time to relax, we are approaching the middle of the season and it does not look good where we are. I have had my injury problems but now I am here, I have to also take responsibility and score goals for the team, as I am an attacker,” said Mlauzi.

League action will return this weekend for the first time in 2024 after a lengthy break after the festive season and Mlauzi’s Nico will play host to in-form top side Township Rollers at Sam Sono Stadium.
