NAFUNA TV head, Nqobizitha ‘Enqore’ Mlilo, has been named by Google as one of Africa’s top 20 innovators using internet to change lives. He is now a semi-finalist in the Google Africa Connected competition. From the list, judges will pick five winners who will each walk away with $25,000 in prize money and expert assistance from Googlers.
The competition was launched last year by the search engine giant in search of Africans who tell their stories about how their lives, professional and charitable work have been changed by the web and Google services.
The categories were education, entertainment/arts/sports, technology, community and NGOs, and small businesses. A total of 2,200 entries were received.
A panel of judges made up of Googlers and external judges, will select 10 finalists and the five winners will be voted for by the public via online voting. The winners will be announced on April 1 at an event in Nairobi, Kenya. Voting opens on February 17.
Enqore comes up against innovators from South Africa (6), Kenya (6), Nigeria (3), Uganda, Senegal, Tanzania and Ghana.
He has shot and directed over 40 videos including Winky D’s Vashakabvu, Tehn, Diamond’s Happy and Rocqui’s Mativenga.
Said Enqore: “When we started Nafuna, it was meant to be a content creation studio that would conceptualise TV shows. We then launched Nafuna TV, a site that would host all our content as we began developing it. — Wires
