THE Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) has announced the appointment of members to various committees tasked with overseeing different aspects of football development and administration in Zimbabwe.
The appointments include notable names such as former players Dickson Choto and Nomsa “Boyz” Moyo, former Warriors manager Sharrif Mussa, former Zifa secretariat acting boss Xolisani Gwesela and Faith Mloyi a former referee.
An award-winning referee Mloyi, who decided to lay down her flag at the end of 2022 after over two decades on the touchline in both domestic and international football matches, was appointed Zifa referees committee chairperson to replace Norman Matemera.
Contacted for a comment Mloyi, who will be deputised by Munyaradzi Majoni, could not open up as she was about to board a flight for a referees’ supervision assignment outside the country.
“It’s so pleasing to get such recognition. However, I can’t talk further. I’m now getting into a plane. We will talk more at a later date,” said Mloyi.
She was encouraged to take up the refereeing profession by her brother in-law Johnson Ndlovu.
Her journey officially kicked off with an advertisement in the local press, which invited aspiring referees to attend a course that was being held in Bulawayo in 2001.
She then affiliated as a Class Four referee in 2002 and rose through the ranks until she became a Fifa assistant referee in 2014.
Mloyi was born in Plumtree and relocated to Bulawayo after finishing secondary school in 2000.
Moyo, a former Mighty Warriors captain was appointed in the AD HOC Afcon committee that has Zifa vice president Kennedy Ndebele as the chairperson and Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa as the vice chairperson.
The committee also has Desmond Ali, Eddie Chivero and Joel Gombera.
