MMCZ drops charges against Moyo

general manager Mr Onesimo Moyo, who is to step down.
MMCZ has advertised the post for a substantive CEO.
Mr Moyo was suspended in March last year.
He was facing nine counts of misconduct centred on the misuse of the company resources, poor performance of duties and taking employment with a subsidiary firm on a full-time basis while still with MMCZ.
His lawyer, Mr Tawanda Chitapi confirmed yesterday his client had indeed stepped down but insisted it was a mutual termination of the contract.
“What is now left is to finalise the package in line with what came out from the arbitrator,” said Mr Chitapi.
It is understood Mr Moyo was offered an exit package of US$500 000, which
he rejected on the basis that he was also a director of one of the corporation’s subsidiaries.
Sources said he wanted an exit package of US$1 million.
MMCZ insiders said it appeared that allegations against Mr Moyo could not be sustained, prompting the corporation to offer him an exit package.
Following his suspension last year, the MMCZ appointed Mr Masimba Chandave-ngerwa as acting general manager. He was sent on forced leave to allow investigations into certain “administrative issues”.
MMCZ’s deputy general manager for corporate affairs Mrs Nomsa Moyo is the current acting general manager.
MMCZ was established under the MMCZ Act of June 1982 and began operations in March 1983, as the exclusive agent for the selling and marketing of all minerals except gold and silver.
The Government, through the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, wholly owns the MMCZ.
Among its functions are controlling and carrying out sales and exports of all minerals, controlling stock piling, minimising opportunities for underhand and dishonest dealings through transfer pricing and under-invoicing related problems
MMCZ also coordinates marketing intelligence, monitors international affairs and technological changes to promote the mining sector.
