Mobile operators target rural areas

“We are working on rolling network coverage upgrade nationwide especially the rural areas to make sure communities have increased access to services such as Telecash.

“We are not in competition with other operators, but we are here to fulfil the needs of consumers in need of our services,” said Mr Mandeya. He said the national ICT Policy launched by Government had come at a good time.

“The ICT Policy actually gives us an advantage as it seeks the involvement of all consumers and catching up with the first world. No one should be discriminated in the digital world.

“I am glad the Government has given us the platform to be the service providers. We will try to reach out to all remote places,” said Mr Mandeya.

Econet Masvingo Regional Manager Mr Clemence Kawadza said they were upgrading their services as well.

“We are targeting rural areas where we want to make sure everyone has access to our services. We have also started upgrading our services to 100 percent 3G in Masvingo. This helps our customers in terms of reliability and fastness,” said Mr Kawadza. “Also additional upgrading of LTE (4G) has been completed in Masvingo, Gutu, Chiredzi and Triangle, but our pricing remains the same be it in urban or rural areas,” he said.
