Siboninkosi Hove, the second princess of Miss Universities Zimbabwe, is scheduled to leave the country today for South Korea to take part at World Miss University contest set for January 25. The 21-year-old beauty, who took the task after the reigning queen Valerie Chingonzo and first princess Simbiso Mutandavari got tied up in examinations during the pageant’s preparatory period, expressed delight over the development.
“I am ecstatic because this is my first time to participate in an international contest and I never thought I would become the country’s representative.
“Although I am not the queen I want to assure people that I will do my best to work for the crown. I am hoping to bring back new ideas, besides modelling, to university students of this nation,” she said.
The Africa University student said she has done necessary preparations considering that it is the country’s debut appearance at the event.
“I got adequate support and orientation from the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority. I have also done a 40-second video for internet voting and talent act to be showcased at the event.
“I can’t make it alone so I am encouraging all Zimbabweans to support me through online votes.”
The beauty pageant initially was supposed to run from November 23 to December 19, but was shifted to January 25 due to some challenges the organisers encountered.
Miss Universities Zimbabwe National director, Edward Mazibuko, said the reigning queen could not manage to attend the contest because of academic demands.
“Our reigning Queen Valerie Chingonzo and first princess Simbiso Mutandavari could not register for the pageant at the required time due to exams they were writing.
“So we opted for Siboninkosi who was available at that time and we also considered her brightness that surpasses other models,” said Mazibuko.
World Miss University seeks to promote World Peace under the objectives of the Peace Movement for the World’s Unification and the pageant is held annually in South Korea.
Mia Hasanagic from Denmark won the last edition of the pageant in 2012.
