the clothes he had stolen.
Tasara Mukozho (30), of Magogodya village, Headman Govere, Chirumanzu pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and theft.
He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, but will serve an effective 12 months with hard labour after six months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
For the State, Mr Bernard Nyoni, told the court that on 13 August last year, Mukozho, a well known vegetable vendor in the Chirumanzu area broke into one Ms Agnes Zvoushe’s house while she was away.
Mr Nyoni said while inside one of the bedrooms, Mukozho took some clothes and packed them into a carrier bag.
The court heard that while still in the bedroom, Mukozho went on to try a pair of trousers and shoes that he found inside.
Mr Nyoni said Mukozho’s luck ran out when he was caught by                                  one of the family members, Mr Naison Pasika, modelling and admiring himself in the mirror as he tried to assure himself that the clothes fitted him well.
The court heard that upon noticing Mr Pasika, Mukozho bolted out of the house wearing the stolen shoes and pair of trousers, leaving his own shoes and a jacket behind.
Mr Nyoni said Mukozho successfully evaded Mr Pasika’s attempt to trap him in the house, left his loot in the house.
He said Mr Pasika, who knew Mukozho very well, gave chase, but could not catch up with him.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of Mukozho the following day. All the stolen property was recovered.
