The second edition of Face of the Globe Zimbabwe pageant is set for the United Kingdom on July 24.
The pageant will see beauties of Zimbabwean origin competing for the crown at the City Rooms in Leicester.Pageant director Lorraine Chinouriri said she was overwhelmed by the response they got from the Zimbabwean community at last year’s finals and looks forward to this year’s event which should be bigger and better.

“Last year was amazing, the support from the Zimbabwean community was so encouraging and our winner, Alishia Musungo went on to compete in Paris.  Her participation and subsequent win has helped propel her modeling career and she has been the best ambassador for our brand.

“This year we will be crowning four winners and taking them all to Paris in October where they will compete on the international stage,” she said.

Because its rooted around Zimbabwean culture and heritage, Face of the Globe Zimbabwe boasts of being one of the few international pageants that do not have a swimwear round, weight or height restrictions as well as age restrictions.

The pageant prides itself in empowering young girls and women of all ages. Chinouriri said contestants are judged by their intelligence, charisma, class and commitment to charitable causes, their portrayal of the modern Zimbabwean woman and representation of the beauty of Zimbabwe as a country. “We are really pushing for more emphasis on charity work as that is a big part of our organisation as a whole.

“Last year we raised money for The Girl Child Network and this year we are raising money for two charitable foundations including one that was established this year to help less fortunate women and children in Zimbabwe.

“One of our finalists, Tapiwa Sithole is currently in Zimbabwe and did charity work in Mbare as part of our pageant while another junior finalist, Kasey McCulloch is working on her charitable contribution and our younger finalists, Stephanie Agun, Zoe Badza, Tasha and Larissa Goto have so far raised enough money from sponsors to buy four sewing machines which are to be donated to women who are single parents so that they can sew to raise their families.

“Last year Face of the Globe raised £45,000 for the Rainbow Child Foundation, this year we hope to help them raise more,” said Chinouriri who is also an entrepreneur based in the UK.

Chinouriri said plans were underway to bring the pageant to Zimbabwe very soon. “We are currently in talks to bring the pageant to Zimbabwe and we want to be able to get finalists in Zimbabwe to fly in to compete in the UK and then in Paris. “We have had applications from Zimbabwe and South Africa and as long as finalists can fly into the UK, they are welcome to compete. We are still accepting applications. We love what we do, I have a great team of volunteers and none of us is paid for all this as we really love what we do and do it for a worthy cause,” she said. Winners of Face of the Globe Zimbabwe 2014 will get a seven-day all expenses paid getaway and hampers among other prizes.
