Several models from top Harare modelling outfit, Prestige Modelling Agency, proved that they are not just beautiful faces when they spent time with orphans at Harare Children’s Home on Christmas day and donated goods worth thousands of dollars. The gesture was well-appreciated if the excitement and joy shown by the more than 60 youngsters who received the Xmas goodies at the orphanage is anything to go by.

The goods included washing powder, baby feeding bottles, baby lotion, baby powder, sanitary pads, Vaseline, soap, baby clothes and foodstuffs including biscuits, salt and beans.

Prestige Modelling Agency director and founder, Sandra Chawabvunza, emphasised the need for everyone to give back to the community, especially to those who are less fortunate in society.

“We wanted to show that even us who are involved in the modelling and beauty industry have feelings for the less-privileged and can give time on a day like Christmas to visit and play with these kids who have no one to come and spend time  with during the festive season,” she said.

Children’s Home director Maria Sithole, thanked the models on behalf of the institution and stressed that even the smallest gesture can go a long way in improving the livelihoods of the orphaned children.

“We have young girls who aspire to be many things in life, including supermodels and entertainers and this kind of charitable gesture sends a message to them that the world out there cares about them and thinks of them on special days such as Christmas,” she said.

A spokesperson for the models, Susan Mharapara, emphasised the need for beauty representatives to spend time doing charitable deeds in order to reduce the stigma associated with beauty pageants which many people think are there to just exploit women and parade their looks.

Prestige Agency supplies models for corporate players including Truworths, Econet Wireless and Bella braids, and they also provide girls for music videos, among other things.
