HOME Affairs Minister Cde Kembo Mohadi has warned MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai that the government will not watch from the sidelines his planned political manouvres aimed at causing anarchy and lawlessness in the country.Tsvangirai and his supporters in the civic society are planning to engage in mass protests after the troubled party holds its congress later this month.
Cde Mohadi said he was charged with maintaining law and order in the country and would not be found wanting in that respect.
“I can’t speak on behalf of Tsvangirai but what I can tell you is that my responsibility as minister is to ensure that there’s law and order prevailing in the country. I’m charged with making sure that the country is peaceful and orderly at all times,” he said.
“If there’s any threat of disturbing the peace in the country, my duty is to act and restore order. If people threaten to take the law into their own hands, then tough luck to them because we will be there to enforce the law.”
Cde Mohadi’s warning follows war veterans’ leader Cde Jabulani Sibanda’s in which he called on Tsvangirai to rethink his planned demonstrations saying if he proceeds with his plans he would be committing political suicide.
Cde Sibanda said Tsvangirai and his party had no sound policies to offer the country but were good at holding the nation at ransom through threats of political disturbances.
The war veterans leader said Tsvangirai would be fiercely resisted by the people of Zimbabwe adding that the MDC-T leader would get more than the answer that he was looking for.
Cde Sibanda said people might have grievances with the government but it did not mean they have to destabilise the country and invite more sanctions in pursuit of their cause.
Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries leader Prophet Walter Magaya on Sunday urged Zimbabweans to take heed of God’s word delivered through Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa last week that they should be peaceful and shun mass protests.
This followed a prophecy by the United Family International Church leader Prophet Makandiwa that mass protests could result in bloodshed.
Prophet Magaya urged people to pray for the nation and its leadership as espoused in the Bible. The First Lady Grace Mugabe has also condemned Tsvangirai’s protest plan.
Tsvangirai has since ignored the prophecy with his spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka telling the media that the planned demonstrations would go ahead.
Tamborinyoka was quoted in the media saying Tsvangirai does not make political judgments or decisions based on prophecies.
