Afro-fusion group Mokoomba are ecstatic about their concert tomorrow at Alliance Francaise where they are expected to rekindle their romance with Harare fans. Marcus Gora, the band’s manager, said fans should brace for an explosive treat.
“We are not calling this show a homecoming show as we are always travelling. Instead, the group is treating it like any other that we stage in different parts of the world. We are always happy to reconnect with our ever growing fan base from Harare,” he said.

The outdoor concert will also be a first of its kind at Alliance Francaise garden where mbira activist Albert Chimedza will also perform with his band Gonamombe.

“Spring is upon us and it is a time for people to enjoy the outdoor experience. We will also be acknowledging the month of mbira were we as artistes are celebrating the music.

“Although we are of a different genre, we are always happy to acknowledge the role played by the instrument in making the country’s presence felt internationally,” said Gora.

Mokoomba is a six-member boy band that hails from Victoria Falls. Its members include lead vocalist Mathias Muzaza, backing vocals and percussion Trustworth Samende, electric, nylon mute guitars Abundance Mutori, bass guitar and backing vocals Donald Moyo, keyboards Miti Mugande, percussions and Ndaba Coster Moyo on drums.

The group’s success has been growing and is fast becoming the most prominent youthful group to emerge from Africa.
Twelve years after their union, they have managed to feature on some of the most prominent festivals like the Womad in the United Kingdom. Legends such as Oliver Mtukudzi also used such platforms to benchmark the start of their internationally acclaimed careers.
