MOKOOMBA TO PERFORM AT HUGE BERLIN FESTIVAL

INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed Afro-fusion band Mokoomba are set to perform at the Sonic Pluriverse Festival: Bass Cultures at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin, Germany.

The festival starts on Friday with the legendary dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson and will run until August 2.

Mokoomba are scheduled to be live on stage on July 12.

The festival will explore sound system culture as a global phenomenon, bringing together experiences, dialogues and sonic practices from around the world.

The festival is set to feature a range of daytime activities, including workshops, lectures and listening sessions, followed by concerts and DJ sets in the evening on the HKW roof terrace.

The programme will showcase a diverse range of bass cultures, from reggae’s deep pulsations to dubstep’s thunderous drops.

In an interview a Mokoomba band member said the team was excited to perform in Berlin.

“We are all excited to be able to perform that side,” he said.

The organisers are also excited.

“The Sonic Pluriverse Festival: Bass Cultures kicks off on next Friday, 27 June, with a keynote lecture by legendary author, musician and activist Linton Kwesi Johnson.

“The evening continues with a powerful live set by Queen Omega & The Royal Souls – a roots reggae icon whose music is deeply grounded in Rastafarian faith.

“Closing the night, Roots Daughters will take over with a DJ set celebrating female reggae artists on their own custom-built sound system,” said the organisers.

The Sonic Pluriverse Festival: Bass Cultures festival aims to create a space for cultural exchange and community dialogue, where voices, rhythms and stories mix.

The festival will bring together artists, activists and community members to share their experiences and perspectives on sound system culture.

Mohini Dey, Ana Tijoux, Sarah Farina, Les Mamans du Congo & Rrobin, André Marie Tala & The Tchamassi Band, featuring the musician and songwriter André Marie Tala and his band, are some of the artists who will perform at the festival.

Perera Elsewhere, Ti Moris, Shiru, Queen Omega & The Royal Souls, Bonga, Dengue Dengue Dengue, Kwashibu Area Band featuring Pat Thomas, Charles Amoah, and K.O.G., Edna Martinez, Nico Adomako and Moneyama, Makumba will also feature with live performances deeply rooted in bass cultures, blending rhythms and melodies that tell stories of resistance and solidarity.

The concerts will be a highlight of the festival, with the HKW roof terrace transformed into a vibrant space for music and community.

The Sonic Pluriverse Festival: Bass Cultures is a celebration of global sound system culture, showcasing the diversity and richness of bass cultures from around the world.
